The Blackhouse Foundation was founded in 2007 to expand career opportunities for Black multi-platform content creators and executives within film, television, digital, and emerging platforms.

This year TriBeca is working with the Blackhouse Foundation to provide space for POC storytelling and have thought provoking conversations with creators in the Indeed Lounge.

Nausheen Dadabhoy

Nausheen Dadabhoy

Nausheen Dadabhoy, is a Pakistani-American director and cinematographer whose work spans fiction and documentary. She lensed an Oscar nominated live action short film, an Emmy winning feature documentary, and films that have played at Sundance, TIFF, Locarno and on Al Jazeera, HBO, and PBS among others. THE GROUND BENEATH THEIR FEET — her directorial debut following two Pakistani women who were paralyzed after an earthquake — premiered at IDFA in the first appearance competition. Nausheen has been a Film Independent Project:Involve Fellow, Berlin Talents participant, Firelight Fellow, Chicken & Egg (Egg)celerator Lab Fellow, newportFILM Documentary Cinematography Fellow, Soros Equality Fellow and she is currently a Pillars Artist Fellow. She was part of DOCNYC’s inaugural “40 Under 40.” Nausheen is based in NYC, LA and Karachi, Pakistan. She received her MFA in Cinematography from the American Film Institute.

Hamza Syed

Hamza Syed

Hamza Syed is the co-host of the podcast The Trojan Horse Affair, a production of Serial and The New York Times. Hamza earned a master’s degree in investigative journalism from De Montfort University in Leicester, England, in 2019, where he was awarded the Channel 4 Prize for Investigative Journalism. Before becoming a reporter, Hamza was a medical doctor.

Kameelah Mu'min Rashad

Kameelah Mu'min Rashad

Dr. Kameelah Mu’Min Rashad is the Founding President of Muslim Wellness Foundation (MWF), a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting healing and emotional well-being in the American Muslim community. The MWF approach to health and healing is interdisciplinary, intergenerational, spiritually grounded, community based, and justice-oriented; committed to challenging sociocultural stressors and systems (poverty, white supremacy, anti-Black racism, Islamophobia for example) which are underlying causes of diminished well-being. Through MWF, Dr. Mu’Min Rashad has established the Omar ibn Said Institute for Black Muslim Studies & Research, and the annual Black Muslim Psychology Conference. Dr. Mu'Min Rashad’s clinical and research areas of expertise include: mental health stigma in faith and racially minoritized communities, first generation college students and emerging adults of color; diversity, religious identity and multicultural issues in counseling, healing justice and faith based activism, racial trauma and healing, psychological impact of anti-Muslim bigotry and anti-Blackness, Black Muslim psychology and Black Muslim intersectional invisibility. Dr. Mu’Min Rashad graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Psychology and MEd in Psychological Services and earned a second Masters in Restorative Practices & Youth Counseling (MRP) from the International Institute for Restorative Practices. Dr. Mu'Min Rashad completed her doctorate in Clinical Psychology at Chestnut Hill College in Philadelphia, PA, with a concentration in couple and family therapy.

Aber Kawas

Aber Kawas

Aber Kawas is a Palestinian American community organizer from Brooklyn New York. She has been working with the Arab and Muslim communities in New York City around policy issues such as immigration reform, unlawful policing and surveillance, as well as advocating against Islamophobia. Aber served as the NYC Advocacy Specialist with the Campaign to Take on Hate under the National Network of Arab American communities, transitioning from her position as Advocacy Director at the Arab American Association of NY. Currently, she has relocated to Johannesburg South Africa to complete an MA focused on Islamic Liberation Theology.

Arij Mikati

Arij Mikati

Arij Mikati is the Managing Director of Culture Change at Pillars Fund, where she designs and leads programming that challenges damaging narratives about Muslims in the U.S. and amplifies Muslim voices in artistic spaces. Her storytelling work seeks to change the lens through which Muslim stories are told to one that is authentic, complex, and honest. Arij has more than ten years of experience as a storyteller, nonprofit executive, educator, and creative consultant. She is also a devoted anti-racism educator, who, as a Social Impact Advisor for Inspire Justice and leadership team member of Chicago Regional Organizers for Anti-Racism, works to foster radically inclusive, just, intersectional spaces. An experienced facilitator, Arij is frequently invited to moderate conversations on anti-racism, storytelling as culture change, equity in entertainment, and Muslim representation in media. Her experiences and expert insight have also been featured by Variety, Teen Vogue, NPR, Tiny Spark podcast, and Al Jazeera, among other publications.

Sana Amanat

Sana Amanat

Sana Amanat is currently an Executive of Production & Development at Marvel Studios. During her 12 years at the company, Sana has been an editor, content creator and producer. She’s worked on story and character development for much of her career beginning with comic books then moving to animation, games, and live action. Her credits include comic book titles like Captain Marvel, Miles Morales and Hawkeye and streaming series like Marvel Rising and Marvel's Hero Project. Sana is most known for co-creating a Muslim-American female super hero named Kamala Khan – the new Ms. Marvel – which gained worldwide media attention and sparked excitement and dialogue about identity and the Muslim-American narrative. She’s championed representation in storytelling, striving to cultivate new voices within the entertainment industry by creating platforms like the Women of Marvel. She has been featured for her accomplishments in Vogue, Marie Claire, and Time Magazine. She’s also had the distinct honor of introducing President Barack Obama at the White House, who called Sana Amanat a “real life superhero”. She is currently the Executive Producer of the live action Ms. Marvel series for Disney Plus.

The Rush system functions as a standby line that will form at the venue approximately one hour prior to scheduled start time.
