I'm Still Here

Everyone remembers that year that Joaquin Phoenix grew a beard and declared his retirement from acting to focus on his hip-hop career. Though technically not a documentary and not technically about music, I'm Still Here was dreamt up as a kind of long-form performance art project by Phoenix and first-time director Casey Affleck, who follows the enigmatic artist while he makes this faux transition into the music industry.

Shut Up and Play the Hits borrows its title from something Arcade Fire's Win Butler jokingly shouted at LCD Soundsystem's frontman James Murphy in the band's final show.  The documentary follows Murphy for the 48 hours during and after the show and is interspersed with footage from an interview with American author Chuck Klosterman.
