Your Weekend Repertory Screenings: 'Donnie Darko,' 'Blue Velvet,' and More

It's finally "warm" out in the Big Apple so there are no excuses to stay holed-up all weekend. Plus, you should probably take a break from the House of Cards binge-watching you started last Friday. Back away from the Netflix... slowly now... because NYC local theaters have an awesome lineup for you.

Friday, February 21st

Donnie Darko (2001)
12:15 a.m. (same time Saturday)
IFC Center

Filmed by director Richard Kelly in the same amount of time killer rabbit Frank predicted the world will end - 28 days - Donnie Darko has become one of the most essential time-travel narratives of cinema.

North by Northwest
(1959)

1:00 p.m. 4:00 p.m. 8:50 p.m.
Film Forum

Poor Cary Grant. Talk about identity crisis. Part of the series The Complete Hitchcock, Film Forum is screening the Master of Suspense all month long through March 27th. See this classic in a brand new restoration.

Saturday, February 22nd

Blue Velvet (1986)
12:10 a.m. (same time Friday)
IFC Center

Lynch drew upon his Eraserhead roots to give Blue Velvet a similar film noir feel. In turn, the film deeply inspired his later Mulholland Drive, blending crime mystery with a surrealist plot. So folks, lots of slow-mo eroticism, psycho killers, and peering through Venetian blinds.

An American in Paris
(1951)

4:00 p.m.
Museum of the Moving Image

Sunday, February 23rd

The Sting (1973)

IFC is continuing their series -The Way He Was: Early Redford - with the George Roy Hill classic that got Robert Redford his first Oscar nomination.
