Good news, Deadheads! The remaining members of the legendary band have given their blessing to documentarian Amir Bar-Lev to make a film about their five decades of jamming. With never-before-seen performances, rare interviews and treasures from the Dead’s archive, audiences can expect one rocking documentary!
What’s even better news is that our friend Martin Scorsese has just signed on to serve as Executive Producer on the yet-to-be-titled film. From the recent George Harrison: Living In The Material World to the groundbreaking The Last Waltz, Scorsese is known for bringing stories of legendary musicians to the big screen.
The film will explore the Dead’s early days as part of the 60s counterculture movement in San Francisco, their building of their own business model based on touring, and finally the success that individual band members have found outside the industry. Fans can also been assured that Bar-Lev and Socrsese will deal with Jerry Garcia’s overdose and its aftermath with special care and attention.
We were incredibly honored to have guitarist Bob Weir at this year’s Festival to attend and perform for the world premiere of The Other One: The Long, Strange Trip of Bob Weir. Stay tuned for more updates about Bar-Lev/Scorsese Grateful Dead collaboration!
