Oprah Winfrey, Samantha Bee, and Tom Hiddleston Will Bring TV to Tribeca. Be There!

Television is set to make a huge splash at this year's Tribeca Film Festival via Oprah Winfrey, Lily Tomlin, Jane Fonda, Tom Hiddleston, Julianna Margulies, and more.

As the old saying goes, "Big things come in small packages," and that sentiment couldn't be more on-point than it is in regards to television. Once considered inferior to movies, TV shows have upgraded to the point where award-winning filmmakers (i.e., Martin Scorsese, Steven Soderbergh) and A-list movie stars (Matthew McConaughey, Amy Adams) are doing some of the best work of their careers in the small-screen medium. To fully acknowledge the tube’s exciting period of fruition, the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, presented by AT&T, will introduce the Festival's inaugural Tribeca Tune In program, a lineup of world premieres, panel discussions, and live events dedicated to television. Tribeca Tune In features six season premieres, three sneak peeks and season finales, three conversations and four special events.

"Since TFF celebrated the show finale of Friends in 2004 to last year's festival which showcased premieres of Inside Amy Schumer, Chef's Table, and the Golden Globe winning Mr. Robot, TFF has long since championed storytelling in a multitude of ways including traditional and online television platforms," said Genna Terranova, Festival Director at the Tribeca Film Festival. "Tribeca Tune In gives us the opportunity to invite people off their couches and share their love and curiosity for great storytelling together. This year's selection is a showcase of the innovative voices, comedic creators and visionary producers who are making TV the exceptional medium it is today."

To throw another old saying your way, Tribeca Tune In is "coming out swinging." One of the program's first guests will be Oprah Winfrey, who's set to bring the premiere of the new OWN original series Greenleaf, about a preacher (Merle Dandridge) who returns home to Memphis and reconnects with her parents (Keith David, Lynn Whitfield) after her sister mysteriously dies; Dandridge, David, and Whitfield will join Winfrey, along with executive producers Craig Wright and Clement Virgo, on stage for a discussion. Winfrey won't be Tune In's only iconic woman—the iconic/dynamic duo of Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda will screen episodes from the second season of their Netflix series Grace and Frankie, followed by an on-stage chat at the School of Visual Arts (SVA).

The heavy-hitters don't stop there. Tom Hiddleston, who's also in the Viewpoints section's High-Rise, and director Susanne Bier will be in town to discuss their new AMC event series, The Night Manager, as well as show the first episode. Julianna Margulies, Cush Jumbo, and creators Robert and Michelle King will toast to the critically acclaimed CBS drama The Good Wife's finale with a special sneak peek at one of its last episodes. Netflix will present the second season premiere of its highly addictive reality series Chef's Table, with chef Grant Achatz, executive producer David Gelb, and director Brian McGinn all taking part in a post-screening convo.

Broad City's Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson will bless the Festival with their hit Comedy Central show's third season finale during the same weekend that Glazer will also host the world premiere of her new three-episode limited Comedy Central series Time Traveling Bong. Social media king Rob Delaney, meanwhile, will join co-star/co-creator Sharon Horgan for a discussion about their hilarious Amazon series Catastrophe. Samantha Bee, the current queen of late-night television, and head writer Jo Miller will discuss TBS' topically funny and razor-sharp Full Frontal With Samantha Bee.

In addition to OWN's Greenleaf, Tribeca Tune-In will debut some of TV's most intriguing new shows. History will unveil selections of its ambitious remake of classic miniseries Roots, which stars Forest Whitaker, Laurence Fishburne, Jonathan Rhys-Meyers, Anna Paquin, and newcomer Malachi Kirby as "Kunta Kinte." TNT will launch the new drama series Animal Kingdom, starring Ellen Barkin, Shawn Hatosy, and Scott Speedman and based on the 2010 Australian film of the same name. And HBO will premiere its new miniseries The Night Of, which is executive-produced by Oscar-winner Steven Zaillian, written by The Wire alum Richard Price, and stars John Turturro and Riz Ahmed (Nightcrawler).

Tribeca Tune In will also host a number of can't-miss special events including the ESPN Films' massive, 7.5.-hour documentary project O.J. Simpson: Made in America, directed by Ezra Edelman (Cutie and the Boxer), which will be screened in its entirety via a marathon on Saturday, April 23; a special screening of HBO's Six Feet Under's knockout series finale, during which showrunner Alan Ball will in attendance providing a live scene-by-scene commentary; and the world premiere of the documentary For the Love of Spock, in which filmmaker Adam Nimoy honors his late father Leonard Nimoy's life and run as the legendary Mr. Spock, just in time for the 50th anniversary of Star Trek; Zachary Quinto, who's currently playing Spock in the new Star Trek film series, will take part in the post-film discussion.

See below for a complete breakdown of our first-ever Tribeca Tune In, part of the 2016 Tribeca Film Festival, taking place April 13-24.
