This Weekend's Indies: 'Life Itself' & 'The Girl on the Train'

Opening this weekend: a look back on the life of cinema's most critical and revered voices and a mysterious girl who changes the course of a documentarian's life by just one chance encounter

Life Itself : What better way to commemorate such an important figure in cinema than through a film?  Steve James' documentary Life Itself follows the life and accomplishments of film critic Roger Ebert. The film recounts his path to becoming one of the most revered voices of cultural critique, through his review show with Gene Siskel and his Pulitzer Prize-winning film criticism, up until his diagnosis of thyroid cancer where he was still writing despite his illness.

The Girl on the Train : Larry Brand is adding another thriller to his filmography with The Girl on the Train. The Halloween director's latest film follows Danny Hart (Henry Ian Cusick) a documentarian who meets a mysterious girl (Nicki Aycox) on a train going from Grand Central to upstate New York. This chance encounter leads him on an unexpected journey, ultimately blurring the line between fantasy and reality.
