Proud
New York Premiere

Proud

| USA | 88 MINUTES | English

Based on actual events, Proud tells the inspirational tale of the only African-American crew to take a Navy warship into combat during World War II. The ship's first port of call is Northern Ireland, where, for the first time, its sailors are treated not as blacks but simply as Americans. The film stars Ossie Davis-in one of his final performances-Stephen Rea, and an ensemble cast of up-and-coming actors. The plot unfolds in flashbacks as Davis' character recalls his days spent captaining the warship. Proud is a reverent portrait of men in combat that combines adventure and romance in a quintessentially American story.
