RADIOTOPIA PRESENTS: MY MOTHER MADE ME

Women, Documentary, Biography

My Mother Made Me explores the relationship between writer Jason Reynolds and his mother, Isabell. Through informal interviews and intimate conversations, they wax poetic about what Reynolds was taught as a child as it pertains to ideas around ambition, family, and purpose and how those teachings have evolved with the changing tides of their lives. It’s a love letter to their connection, an homage to parent-child friendship, and a testament to how growth can be perpetual, despite age or circumstance.

My Mother Made Me will be released in 2022 from Radiotopia Presents. Part of the Radiotopia podcast network from PRX, Radiotopia Presents is a podcast feed and home for new limited series from independent creators.

In the first episode of My Mother Made Me, entitled, "I Can Do Anything," Jason mines his own busy life and attributes his success to his mother who indoctrinated him with the idea that he could do anything. But after visiting her one Sunday, exhausted and discouraged, he learned that perhaps there are loopholes in that lesson and that in order for him to be healthy and happy in this next phase of his life, he would have to make edits to his mother's teachings. Especially that one.
