5 Things You Need to Know About TFF 2013

Can you feel the excitement? That, my friends, is opening night fervor! We share five things you need to keep in mind to better your Festival experience.

5 Things You Need to Know About TFF 2013

We couldn’t be more thrilled to open this year’s festival with Tom Berninger’s documentary, Mistaken For Strangers, which explores his desire to bring one thing  in his life to completion as well as his complicated relationship with his brother, Matt. Matt also happens to be the lead singer of The National, the Brooklyn-based band featured in the film. Mistaken For Strangers embodies the independent spirit and exuberance of this first time filmmaker and of the festival itself.

After this exceptional opening tomorrow, the Festival kicks off in full, with film screenings, events and more. So what do you need to know to ensure a great Festival experience?

Ticketing

The general public has been able to purchase tickets since Monday, April 15, and they are selling fast! Our handy ticketing blog tells you how to buy tickets (yes, on your phone too) and provides box office contact information, in case you run into any problems.

Is the showtime to your most-anticipated movie already on Rush? Here at Tribeca, we never say sold out. Learn more about our Rush Ticket policy here

Movies

Securing tickets is the easy part, however. The toughest challenge is deciding which films to see because, no matter what your interests are, there are films for everyone at TFF 2013. Movies that will make you laugh, make you cry and make you scream are all on tap at TFF 2013!

Are you a documentary fan? You can purchase tickets to 25 great documentaries at this year’s Festival right now. From documentary films featuring famous experimental filmmakers to Coney Island strong men, you have a bevy of options at this year’s Festival.

Events

The Tribeca Film Festival is not only a celebration of cinema, but also of our community. One of our favorite events is our FREE annual Tribeca Drive-In. This year, our three-night outdoor movie extravaganza includes The Birds, Beetlejuice and Lil Bub & Friendz. We also have great selection of free industry panels for festival goers to attend, including the recently added Music + Film panel. Our Tribeca Family Festival and ESPN/Tribeca Sports Day are revamped and better than ever, ensuring maximum enjoyment for both kids and parents.

Our Tribeca Talks® Directors Series is always a big favorite. Tickets are still available for great talks featuring Mira Nair with Bryce Dallas Howard, and Jay Roach with Ben Stiller. One of the events we’re most looking forward to is the Tribeca Talks® After the Movie: Beyond Two Souls which is centered around the visionary new Playstation game featuring Ellen Page and Willem DaFoe.

Online

If you just can’t make to the Festival this year, don’t worry. We’ve planned for that. Thanks to our Tribeca Online Film Festival, you’ll be able to watch 7 great TFF films—three features and four shorts.  The features include Alias Ruby Blade: A Story of Love and Revolution, Lil Bub & Friendz, and Farah Goes Bang (all streamed just after their Festival theatrical premieres), and short films are RPG OKC, Delicacy, The Exit Room and A Short Film About Guns.

Four Tribeca Film titles playing in this year’s Festival—The English Teacher, Greetings From Tim Buckley, Fresh Meat and What Richard Did—will also be available to rent on VOD and iTunes. Don’t forget to check out the finalists in our #6SECFILMS competition once they are posted online.

Closing Night

Here at Tribeca, we always like to end our Festival with a bang. Last year, our Closing Night Film was Joss Whedon’s The Avengers, and, in addition to the reel heroes, Tribeca took the opportunity at the event to honor the real everyday heroes who help keep our city standing strong.

This year, the Festival will culminate with the world premiere restoration of Martin Scorese’s The King of Comedy as our Closing Night Film. Featuring career defining performances from Jerry Lewis, Sandra Bernhard and, of course, our own Robert De Niro, this underrated classic is back in the spotlight, and we’re pleased to offer movie lovers and New Yorkers the chance to be a part of this historical event.

After reading this, we hope you’re ready for the start of what promises to be a memorable two weeks. From indie rock gods to hard-hitting documentaries to gut-busting comedies to industry panels and more, TFF 2013 is just the ticket!
