TFI-Supported ‘Cutie and the Boxer’ Nominated for Best Documentary Oscar
Congrats to the ‘Cutie and the Boxer’ team! The film just received a nomination for Best Documentary at the 2014 Oscars.
We’re so incredibly happy that Cutie and the Boxer is one of the five films nominated for Best Documentary at the 86th annual Academy Awards. One of the recipients of the 2012 TFI Documentary Fund from our friends at the Tribeca Film Institute, Cutie and the Boxer explores the messy, but loving marriage between Brooklyn-based Japanese artists Ushio and Noriko Shinohara. After its debut at last year’s Sundance Film Festival, we had the privilege to screen the Zachary Heinzerling’s captivating documentary at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival. New York audiences were so enthralled that the film won Second Place in the documentary category for the 2013 Heineken Audience Awards at the Festival.
If you haven’t seen the film yet, Cutie and the Boxer is currently available to stream on Netflix. In the meantime, be sure to check out our with interview with filmmaker
Zachary Heinzerling about the fascinating Shinoharas, the modern art world, and more.
