Jessica Biel/Zosia Mamet Indie Dramedy from TFF 2015 Lands Distributor
The North American rights to Scottish writer-director Diane Bell's indie dramedy Bleeding Heart have been scooped up by Gravitas Ventures for release this year.
Bleeding Heart, which made its world premiere this past April at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival, stars Jessica Biel and Girls' Zosia Mamet as two sisters — one, a wealthy yoga instructor in the midst of a spiritual crisis; the other, a blowzy prostitute with a cruel pimp boyfriend (Joe Anderson) — who come together after years of not knowing the other existed and quickly become each other's protector. The film also co-stars Kate Burton, Edi Gathegi, and Harry Hamlin.
Aided by the solid principal performances of Biel (who's never been this game) and Mamet (shedding Shoshanna's vapidity while upping the abrasive irony), Bell's second feature is an appealingly jagged, tonally shape-shifting sister-sister tale that boldly zig-zags from brittle comedy to familial drama to guns-a-blazing thriller and fully substantiates Bell as a unique filmmaking voice worth hearing more from.
Bleeding Heart will be released via VOD on November 3rd, before landing in theaters for a limited release on December 11th.
