Misty Copeland Continues to Dominate as TFF2015 Doc A BALLERINA'S TALE Gets U.S. Release
Right on the heels of Misty Copeland's trailblazing American Ballet Theatre promotion, Nelson George's highly-anticipated, Copeland-centered documentary A Ballerina's Tale has been picked up by Sundance Selects for U.S. distribution after making its world premiere this past April at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival.
The film, which offers a behind-the-scenes look at a pivotal point in the breakout ballet superstar's rising career, will be released into theaters and through VOD on October 14th by IFC's boutique distribution brand.
But for those who can't wait to seek out this most influential and inimitable talent as she continues her stratospheric rise, you can catch Copeland live as she makes her Broadway debut this summer in On the Town for a limited two-week run. The revival's investors clearly have their fingers crossed that Copeland's unprecedented renown and widespread popularity can resuscitate this critically-acclaimed but financially-flagging production.
In the meantime, it's a continued pleasure to watch Copeland do the damn near impossible and make broader America actually care about ballet, while bravely and beautifully breaking down its barriers. And the best part is that it feels like just the start.
