Short Film Showcase: Watch Neill Blomkamp's 'Tempbot'

The 'Elysium' and 'District 9' director's 2006 short 'Tempbot' shows a different vision of dystopia.

Short Film Showcase: Watch Neill Blomkamp's 'Tempbot'

With District 9, director Neill Blomkamp was hailed as an exciting and smart new voice for sci-fi blockbusters. He's back again with Matt Damon and Jodie Foster in Elysium, yet another sci-fi look at how inequality in social systems can be exacerbated by sci-fi elements (aliens; liveable space stations) into something that puts those social inequalities into stark relief.

But before he made such a splash with District 9, Blomkamp made the following short film. Titled Tempbot, Blomkamp took the low-fi office culture of '00s comedies and introduced the element of a robotic worker. Though nobody seems to react to the bot as if it's anything but another drone of a human. Come for the subtle social satire. Stay for the Lynda Carter cameo!
