TFF 2014 Trailer of the Day: 'Bad Hair'

A young boy's obsession with straightening his hair stirs up fear and homophobic reactions in his mother.

I'll go as a singer with straight hair.

This portrait of a boy's wish to be a different person is as heartbreaking as it is tender. Under the tutelage of his grandmother, Junior finds the life he's always wanted, even if it can only exist within the confines of those four walls. His mother struggles with her son's obsessions, wishing he could at least pretend to be like the other boys.

Bad Hair explores ideas about identity, fitting in, and our pre-determined roles in life. Director Mariana Rondon's documentary-esque style provides an honest look at a young boy's formative experiences.
