Spend your Friday night at the movies. Is there any better way to end your workweek?

Today at Tribeca: ‘Big Shot’ ESPN Gala, ‘Beetlejuice’ and World Premieres Galore

Yesterday was a whirlwind of world premieres, events and parties, and there are no signs of things slowing day as the 2nd day of TFF 2013 kicks into high gear. In addition to our two free panels this afternoon—Tribeca Talks® Pen to Paper: New Chick Flicks and Tribeca Talks® Industry: Look Who's Talking—we have a full docket of movies and more for this evening.

The ESPN Sports Film Festival Gala screening of Big Shot, directed by Entourage and TFF alum Kevin Connolly, is scheduled for tonight. The doc chronicles the infamous John Spano’s fraudulent purchase of the New York Islanders. We have two shorts programs screening tonight as well (Character Witness and Skin Deep) not to mention the world premieres of such Festival must-sees as In God We Trust, The Kill Team, G.B.F, Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me, Bottled Up, and At Any Price.

Events:

“Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse, Betelgeuse!” Celebrate the 25th anniversary (can you believe it?) of Tim Burton’s classic, Beetlejuice, at the second night of the Tribeca Drive-In®. Co-sponsored by AT&T and JetBlue, the film is accompanied by fun activities. Make sure to come early to Brookfield Place to participate in a Burtonesque costume contest and remember that one lucky audience member will be chosen to receive a full Beetlejuice-style makeover before the show. If that’s not incentive…we don’t know what is. The fun starts at 6PM!

Tomorrow Highlights:

Our annual Tribeca Drive-In® ends with a special screening of Lil’ Bub & Friendz, starring the world’s favorite Internet cat, Lil’Bub. Directed by Vice’s Juliette Eisner and Andy Capper, this doc adorably explores the Internet cat phenomena and features some very famous felines. Embrace your inner cat lover and join us for the film and cat-related activities, hosted by Brookfield Place. You never know which furry friends might show up…

"Write what you know” has always been a mantra, but how does that apply to film? Hear from filmmakers, writers and actors such as Banker White (The Genius of Marian), director Tom Berninger (Mistaken for Strangers), writer/actress Amy Grantham (Lily), and director Josh Fox (Gasland Part II), all who have put their lives on-screen. They will be featured at the FREE Tribeca Talks® Pen to Paper: Putting the "I" in "Film" panel, hosted by Barnes & Noble and moderated by Screen International’s Mark Adams.

In the first of our beloved Tribeca Talks® Directors Series, sponsored by OppenheimerFunds®, acclaimed director Mira Nair (The Namesake, Monsoon Wedding) will join actress/director Bryce Dallas Howard to discuss her career, film and, of course, The Reluctant Fundamentalist, which will celebrate its U.S premiere at TFF 2013. Purchase tickets here.

Don’t want to spend your Saturday in the RUSH line? You can currently buy tickets for Gore Vidal: The United States of Amnesia, Harmony Lessons, Raw Herring, Taboor, Frankenstein’s Army, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow and Mr. Jones. See? We like to offer you just a little bit of everything and frankly, our selection couldn’t be more varied.
