Today at Tribeca: Movies, ‘Alberi’ at MoMA PS1’s VW Dome, and Final Night of Tribeca Drive-In

Our first Festival Saturday offers free events, enlightening panels, and, of course, more screenings.

Today at Tribeca: Movies, ‘Alberi’ at MoMA PS1’s VW Dome, and Final Night of Tribeca Drive-In

Did a bit of stardust get in your eyes last night? Celebrities like Jodie Foster, Zac Efron, Heather Graham, Kevin Connolly, Thomas Haden Church, and Sal Masekela graced the various red carpets to support our TFF 2013 films. In addition, we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Beetlejuice in style at the 2nd night of the Tribeca Drive-In®, co-sponsored by AT&T and JetBlue.

We have a great TFF line-up for you today, if we do say so ourselves. In addition to our films, we offer two exciting panels. Tribeca Talks® Directors Series, sponsored by OppenheimerFunds®, features Mira Nair in conversation with actress Bryce Dallas Howard on topics such as creativity and multi-tasking, and our Tribeca Talks® Pen to Paper: Putting the "I" in "Film" panel, hosted by Barnes & Noble, explores filmmaking based on life experiences.

Today’s Events:

MoMA PS1’s VW Dome is hosting a special screening of Alberi at 5PMwhich wil alsol run as an installation there until the end of the Festival. This program takes audiences to the village of Satriano, where the men of the town cover themselves with ivy and transformthemselves into specter-like walking trees. Don’t miss out on this very special opportunity to experience a circular journey through the countryside of Southern Italy.

We’re ending our annual Tribeca Drive-In® on an adorable note with a special screening of the doc sensation, Lil’ Bub & Friendz. Directed by Juliette Eisner and Andy Capper, the film explores the Internet cat culture and the felines that drive the phenomenon. The screening is co-sponsored by AT&T and JetBlue. So head down early to Brookfield Place to secure your seat and take advantage of all the surprises we have in store. Who knows who (or what animal) may make an appearance before sundown?

Tomorrow’s Highlights:

In our second installment of our popular Tribeca Talks® Directors Series, sponsored by OppenheimerFunds®, film and television director Jay Roach will be in the hot seat as he is interviewed by friend and long-time collaborator Ben Stiller. Purchase tickets here.

Documentaries continue to evolve over the years into ever more complex, multi-format storytelling features so…where does the writer come in? Writer/director Fahad Mustafa (Powerless), writer/director Warwick Ross (Red Obsession), director Jason Osder (Let the Fire Burn), editor Nels Bangerter (Let the Fire Burn) and director Sean Dunne (Oxyana) will discuss the  new documentary at our panel entitled Tribeca Talks® Pen to Paper: Whose Credit is it Anyway? Hosted by Barnes & Noble and moderated by Julia Bacha (Budrus)

What happens to film when brands become producers? ESPN Films Director of Development Dan Silver; GE Executive Director of Global Digital Marketing Linda Boff; VICE Media, Inc. Executive Creative Director Danny Gabai, and Red Bull Media House Head of Distribution Greg Jacobs will explore this topic at the Tribeca Talks® Industry: Brand New Studios panel, moderated by strategic consultant Nancy Schafer.

We know. You’d rather spend your Sunday brunching or walking around the city than standing in the RUSH line. Get instant peace of mind and purchase tickets now to one of the following films so you can really enjoy those Eggs Benedict: Pat XO & Let Them Wear Towels, Michael H. Profession: Director, Some Velvet Morning, BIG JOY: The Adventures of James Broughton, Genius of Marian, Big Bad Wolves, Will You Still Love Me Tomorrow, V/H/S/2 or Bending Steel. All in all, some impressive options there, so do not delay.
