WHAT TO WATCH: SUPPORTING CHARACTERS Friday at 10:00 p.m. on MSG Network

Just in time for the dog days of summer movie watching, MSG Network has partnered with Tribeca Film for Tribeca Film Presents, a special summer-long event telecasting Tribeca Film movies every Friday from June through September.

Our summer movie series Tribeca Film Presents is still going strong and continues this Friday at 10:00 p.m. on MSG Network with Daniel Schechter's 2012 comedy Supporting Characters.

The film, which made its world premiere at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, stars Girls' resident curmudgeon Alex Karpovsky and Schechter's co-writer Tarik Lowe as New York film editors/best friends whose latest editing job on a dire comedy begins to wreak havoc on the duo's personal and professional lives.

Featuring a cast of both rising stars and indie staples such as Melonie Diaz, Karpovsky's Girls boss Lena Dunham, Arielle Kebbel, Sophia Takal, and New York character acting institution Kevin Corrigan as the mad director of the film-within-the-film, Supporting Characters is made with the casual, character-focused comedy of prime seventies moviemaking. Schechter offers a witty, amiable take on the vibrant big city romantic comedy, told from a specifically film-focused angle and anchored by the charming rapport between Karpovsky and Lowe. If that doesn't make for perfect end-of-summer viewing, we don't know what will.
