WHAT TO WATCH: MAN ON THE TRAIN Friday on MSG Network
Our new, weekly summer movie series Tribeca Film Presents resumes Friday at 10:00 on MSG Network with an under-the-radar crime drama from 2011 starring the remarkable Donald Sutherland and... U2's drummer?
Directed by Mary McGuckian, Man on the Train is based on Patrice Leconte's award-winning French thriller about a mysterious criminal (U2 drummer Larry Mullen Jr.) who rolls into a small town with plans to knock off the local bank, only to experience a chance encounter with a retired professor (Sutherland) that forces them both to reevaluate the course of their lives.
Man on the Train is a worthy, rare stab at character-driven suspense that never received the attention it deserved from critics and audiences alike. That it also features one of our greatest, most insightful, and deplorably un-Oscared screen actors is all the more incentive to seek out this under-the-radar curio. Tune in Friday at 10:00 (or else set the DVR) to give this well-acted, crisply-lensed, and subtly-scripted indie its due.
