“…heartbreakingly authentic, vividly realized account of adolescent frustration and yearning…”
– Variety, Peter Debruge
New York, NY – (February 18, 2013) –– Tribeca Film announced today it will be releasing recent Gotham Independent Film Award-winner Gita Pullapilly and Aron Gaudet’s small-town feature Beneath the Harvest Sky theatrically on May 2, 2014, which will also be available on cable/telco and satellite video-on-demand and digital platforms starting April 15, 2014. The release will be preceded by an exclusive preview engagement in Maine, the home state to the filmmakers and the setting of the film, starting on April 25. The duo’s acclaimed narrative feature debut showcases an ensemble of rising talent, including Emory Cohen (Place Beyond the Pines), Callan McAuliffe (The Great Gatsby), Zoe Levin (The Way, Way Back) and Aidan Gillen (“The Wire,” “Game of Thrones”). Gita Pullapilly and Aron Gaudet were recently selected by Variety for the 2013 edition of their“Top 10 Directors to Watch” list.
“As a teenager growing up in a small town in Maine, and an avid film goer, I was always watching and waiting for the films opening in New York City to finally make their way to my nearest theatre,” said co-director Aron Gaudet. ”Now, as a Maine-based filmmaker with a movie being released nationwide, it was very important to me that the people of Maine would have the same opportunities to see Beneath The Harvest Sky as anyone else in the country. The fact that they now have the chance to see it in theatres first—before anyone else—is even better!”
Casper (Emory Cohen) and Dominic (Callan McAuliffe) have been fiercely loyal friends since childhood. Desperate for a way out of their quiet town on the Maine-Canada border, the boys make a pact to pool their earnings on a car and hit the road. But when Casper is drawn into drug smuggling with his outlaw father (Aidan Gillen) to pay his share, their friendship is pushed to the brink and adult choices are forced on them all too soon. A standout narrative debut from Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly, Beneath The Harvest Sky is a gripping coming-of-age thriller set against a layered and authentic portrait of small-town American life.
Bar Harbor, ME residents Aron Gaudet and Gita Pullapilly have spent over 10 years capturing stories in Maine. In 2009 they released their Emmy-nominated documentary The Way We Get By, which profiled the Maine Troop Greeters of Bangor.
“As Maine-based filmmakers, we are so fortunate to have the support of the community to champion us as artists,” Pullapilly said. “We can’t wait for people in Maine to see the film. We hope we made them proud.”
The film was produced by Aron Gaudet, Gita Pullapilly and Kavita Pullapilly.
