The Philipstown WireCar Grand Prix
In a remote desert town in South Africa, imagination and a knack for fashioning tin cans and scrap metal into dream cars fuels a group of teenage kids’ passion to race in the Phillipstown Wire Car Grand Prix, the only race of its kind in the world. Here, teenagers race wire cars over wild rocky terrain for a gruelling 3 km, each battling for the medal that will make them a town champion. The race offers a platform for their talent, an opportunity to become known, and a chance to fashion a better life for themselves and their community. A joy-fueled race against isolation and inequality.
Spotlighting the artistry and ingenuity behind the wire cars, the film affirms the dignity, creativity, and resilience of the children of Philipstown.
Through the enduring spirit of the children of Philipstown, the film is a reminder of the power of dreaming, even when the odds say differently.
