Tim Heidecker & Rick Alverson in Q&As for "The Comedy" in Brooklyn This Weekend

Appropriately enough, “The Comedy” lands in Brooklyn this weekend at BAM. Director Rick Alverson and star Tim Heidecker will discuss their controversial character study at select screenings on Friday and Saturday.

Tim Heidecker & Rick Alverson in Q&As for "The Comedy" in Brooklyn This Weekend

Currently available nationwide on VOD and digital platforms like iTunes, Amazon Instant Video, and Vudu, the Brooklyn-set indie film The Comedy is finally making its way home.

Rick Alverson’s layered character study of an aging Brooklyn hipster lacking ambition and empathy has generated exceptional buzz throughout the indie film world. The film, described by Indiewire as “a powerful generational statement,” explores the dark recesses of a social mileau in which even the privileged have become listless and disinterested.

At the center of the film is Swanson, played with incredible skill by Tim Heidecker of Tim and Eric fame. Heidecker’s Swanson is a voluntary outsider, lingering on the fringes of society with his group of like-minded peers. He is also a polarizing figure, capable of great aggression, often choosing to antagonize and harass others simply to get a reaction. At the same time, Swanson unpredictably exhibits extreme tenderness in the most unlikely of situations, making him even more of an enigma.

Want to see this divisive conversation starter with an audience? The Comedy opens at BAM on Friday, November 16. Even better? Rick Alverson and Tim Heidecker will be there in person for Q&As after the 6:50 pm screenings on Friday and Saturday (11/16-17), and will also introduce the 9:30 pm shows. Tickets are still available, so act now to secure your seat for the film that the Village Voice calls “transgressively brilliant.”

The Comedy is also opening in these and other select cities nationwide:

San Francisco, CA: Roxie Theater – November 23
Austin, TX: Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar – November 30

Note: The above theaters also have opening weekend Q&As with writer/director Rick Alverson and Tim Heidecker.
