Right on the heels of JR's latest film, Ellis, making its world premiere at this year's New Yorker Festival this past Sunday, one of the French artist's earlier cinematic projects is finally getting a digital release.

Inside Out: The People's Art Project, a 2013 documentary directed by Alastair Siddons, is now available to buy and rent on iTunes. Centered around the fascinating and widely popular artistic undertaking of the title, Inside Out tracks the project's evolution from wildly ambitious idea to its status as biggest participatory art project in the world.

The film, which made its world premiere at the 2013 Tribeca Film Festival before airing on HBO, allows viewers the chance to travel the globe with JR as he encourages entire communities to define their most important and passionate causes by creating giant, black-and-white portraits that are then pasted in the street. The end results are incredible, motivational, barrier-breaking displays that combine rare artistic expression with necessary social action from participants both young and old.

Inside Out may not feature any adorably-animated emotional avatars, but it does allow audiences to bear witness to a unique and once-impossible cinematic experience, as global citizens take ownership of these previously restricted walls and, in the process, reclaim a world that is once again theirs.
