PEGGY GUGGENHEIM – ART ADDICT Comes to Nitehawk's LOCAL COLOR Series This Week
Discover the fascinating and formidable life story of the eternal art world icon.
After making its world premiere at the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival and still in the midst of its extended multi-city theatrical release, Lisa Immordino Vreeland's documentary portrait Peggy Guggenheim – Art Addict will make another appearance in New York City at Nitehawk Cinema and Tribeca Film Festival's ongoing LOCAL COLOR screening series this Wednesday, January 13th.
The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Immorindo Vreeland, who is quickly becoming a staple of fine art and fashion-inspired non-fictional/biographical filmmaking between Art Addict, her earlier debut Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has to Travel (about the famed Harpers Bazaar editor of the title), and an upcoming documentary about Sir Cecil Beaton, the English renaissance man who triumphed as a fashion, portrait, and wartime photographer, painter, and Academy Award-winning costume designer.
In Peggy Guggenheim – Art Addict, Immorindo Vreeland depicts her larger-than-life subject – a voracious collector, progressive patroness, and beloved doyenne of the transcontinental art scene, whose uncle Solomon founded New York's legendary Guggenheim Museum – with all the dynamic devotion that Guggenheim afforded to both renowned greats and lesser-known geniuses, including none other than painters Virginia Admiral and Robert De Niro Sr., the parents of Tribeca co-founder Robert De Niro. De Niro even makes an appearance in the film to discuss the invaluable boost that Guggenheim provided to his parents' respective careers by featuring their works in her world-famous collection.
Bouncing between Europe and the United States as often as she would between lovers, Guggenheim’s extraordinary life was as swirling as the design of her uncle’s museum and reads more like fiction than any conceivable reality. Don't miss one of your final chances to see it unfold on the ultimate canvas imaginable: the big screen.
