Gritty Drama ‘Starred Up’ Leads British Independent Film Award Nominations

Last week, we announced that Tribeca Film has acquired the North American rights to Starred Up, the brutal drama about an explosive young inmate who is forced to deal with his estranged father once they are placed on the same cellblock in a maximum-security prison. In addition to earning acclaim at this year’s Telluride and Toronto Film Festivals, Starred Up has now received 8 nominations at this year’s British Independent Film Awards.

The BIFAs are the UK’s equivalent to the prestigious Independent Spirit Awards stateside. Starred Up is nominated for Best British Independent Film and also has been recognized in the Best Director (David Mackenzie), Best Actor (Jack O’Connell), Best Screenplay (Jonathan Asser) and Best Supporting Actor (Ben Mendelsohn and Rupert Friend) categories.
