What starts as a quick trip to Jamaica ends as an exhilarating voyage of self-discovery, as Stella (Angela Bassett) learns to open her heart and find love — even if it’s with a man 20 years her junior.

At the 2023 Tribeca Festival, we proudly presented a 25th-anniversary screening of How Stella Got Her Groove Back, a film that's maintained cultural relevance throughout the decades and found humor and heart in the tribulations of modern-day relationships in a way that hadn't previously been represented on screen.

The special screening was then followed by a conversation with director Kevin Rodney Sullivan and Angela Bassett, moderated by Torell Shavone Taylor. During the panel discussion, Bassett and Sullivan reflected on their experiences and offered insights into their acting and directorial decisions.
