Get Ready to Laugh with ‘The Hot Flashes’ at 92Y this Thursday

Are you sick of the same old summer blockbuster fare? We’ve got a remedy in the form of a quirky and fresh comedy from famed director of Susan Seidelman.  It was Seidelman who made Madonna a bona fide movie star in the 1985 film, Desperately Seeking Susan, and memorably pitted Roseanne Barr and Meryl Streep against each other in She-Devil (1989). On the small screen, Seidelman directed the pilot of  “Sex and the City” as well as other landmark episodes in that innovative series. Full of warmth, truth and humor, Seidelman’s fully-fleshed out female characters are a welcome change from  mainstream cinema’s  cookie-cutter images of femininity.

So be sure to join Susan Seidelman and Indiewire’s Caryn James tomorrow at 8:15PM at the uptown establishment for an imitate conversation about female empowerment and an advance showing of The Hot Flashes, Seidelman’s smart new comedy about a vivacious group of former high school female basketball champs who have now reluctantly settled into the monotony of middle age.

When an opportunity arrives for the team to reunite for a charity basketball game to raise money for breast cancer prevention, the old friends jump at the chance to prove themselves on the court (they play the current high school girls’ state champs) and off by regaining their senses of self.

Starring Brooke Shields, Wanda Sykes, Daryl Hannah, Virginia Madsen, Camryn, Manheim, and Eric Roberts, The Hot Flashes is a heartfelt and hilarious comedy that will delight all audiences, male or female. Tickets are only $15 and are on sale now so don’t delay!
