Free Summer Movies at Tribeca Cinemas

Join us at Tribeca Cinemas & The Varick Room this summer for their inaugural Summer Cinema Series, complete with themed cocktails and drink specials.

Free Summer Movies at Tribeca Cinemas

Starting June 4th, beat the heat with FREE screenings of cult classics and a themed bar menu at Tribeca Cinemas & The Varick Room for their monthly Summer Cinema Series, which includes classics like Wet Hot American Summer, Top Gun and What About Bob?. Admission is first come, first served, but not to worry. If you don’t get a seat in the theater, you’ll still have an opportunity to soak up some culture (and cocktails) in The Varick Room as the film will play on the bar’s big screen as well. For all screenings, the doors will open at 6:30PM for the 8:00PM show.

June 4th: Wet Hot American Summer

What better way to launch the series, than with the comedy classic Wet Hot American Summer? Directed by David Wain (MTV’s The State) and written by Wain and Michael Showalter, WHAS perfectly sends up summer camp movie clichés of the 80’s.

Initially released under the radar and underappreciated, the power of home video and word of mouth has given the film cult hit status. The film boasts an all‐star cast of pre‐stardom Paul Rudd, Amy Poehler, Bradley Cooper, Elizabeth Banks, David Hyde Pierce, Molly Shannon, Michael Ian Black, Janeane Garafolo.

Come enjoy camp humor, cold beer, cocktails, and one of our favorite cult classics.

July 9th: Top Gun

Do you ever feel the need...the need for speed? Well, we do too. Strap on your flight suits and cruise into Tribeca Cinemas for a free screening of the definition of Summer blockbuster Top Gun. Starring Tom Cruise, Val Kilmer, Kelly McGillis, and Anthony Edwards, Top Gun shattered box office records when first released in 1986.

So whether you enjoy this 80's classic as a testosterone-fueled, flag-waving piece of filmmaking, or perhaps as something more...ironic, join us for a night of high-flying fun. Don't be afraid to ride into the danger zone*.

*Danger zone= Cold beer, drink specials, and beach volleyball (optional).

August 6th: What About Bob?

The sleepy dog days of August are a perfect time to get away to the country for a vacation with your loved ones. That is, unless you have a borderline psycho following your every move. Sound terrifying? Not when the psycho in question is lovable Bill Murray! As the titular character in Frank Oz’ What About Bob? Murray fans love him as a reclusive psychiatric patient who becomes obsessed with his new doctor (Richard Dreyfuss).

A creepy premise with hilarious results, Murray and Dreyfuss’s comedic chemistry is at its finest. Known among Murray fans as a deeper cut with a dedicated following, What About Bob? is a free screening not to be missed.

Come on down to Tribeca Cinemas & The Varick Room this summer to enjoy free movies and delicious bar bites and custom cocktails. You'll be glad you did!
