Character Studies: Rebel Wilson Is On Your Side

Leading up to the January 11 theatrical release of “Struck By Lightning,” we want to help you get to know your favorite SBL characters—like Malerie Baggs (played by Rebel Wilson)— just a little bit better.

Character Studies: Rebel Wilson Is On Your Side

When you’re a high school outcast, you tend to want to remain invisible—but what if you had a camera? Malerie Baggs, played by breakout star Rebel Wilson, roams the halls of Clover High with her camera, filming her peers in her own high school cinema verite style. Only Carson Philips, a fellow outcast, notices and somewhat sympathizes with the budding documentarian. Even though Carson can be short with her, Malerie sees him as a kindred spirit who, like her, is looking beyond these difficult high school years.

Malerie is a willing ally as Carson assembles his literary club and takes other extreme measures to strengthen his application to Northwestern. How does she assist him so ably in recruiting new members, you ask? Find out by seeing Struck by Lightning in select theaters on January 11 or by renting the film now on VOD or digital platforms.
