Tribeca Film To Release ‘Listen Up Philip’ Starring Jason Schwartzman and Elisabeth Moss

Tribeca Film is pleased to announce its acquisition of the North American rights to Listen Up Philip, the dark comedy from indie wunderkind Alex Ross Perry. Starring Jason Schwartzman, Elisabeth Moss, Jonathan Pryce, Krysten Ritter, Joséphine de La Baume, Dree Hemingway, and Jess Weixler, the film received rave reviews when it premiered at the 2014 Sundance Film Festival.

Shot on 16mm film by lauded cinematographer Sean Price Williams, Listen Up Philip is a complicated and eccentric comedy about the self-destructive nature of an arrogant yet talented novelist. Still living off the success of his first novel, Philip (Schwartzman) is obsessed with the coming release of his follow-up novel, much to the detriment of his relationship with his photographer girlfriend (Moss). Disillusioned by the literary scene and city life in general, Philip escapes to the isolated summer home of his idol Ike Zimmerman’s (Pryce) to bask in the peace and quiet and to focus on his favorite subject — himself.

“Tribeca Film has proven itself fearless by partnering with us for the release of Listen Up Philip. In this day and age, distribution for independent films is a real broken system, probably worse than it has ever been,” said Alex Ross Perry.  “So it is incredibly exciting to be working with people who actually care not only about 'movies' and 'stories' but about honest to god Cinema, I mean serious Cinema that leaves audiences heavier.”

Praised as “assured and at times dazzling” by Manohla Dargis of The New York Times, Listen Up Philip will enjoy a theatrical release beginning October 17 and will later be released on VOD and digital platforms starting October 21.
