Fan boys everywhere will be charmed by this 2013 SXSW prizewinner about a disgraced fantasy game master who must regain his throne.

Nerdist Industries and Tribeca Film Unite for ‘Zero Charisma’

As was just announced at San Diego Comic-con, Nerdist Industries and Tribeca Film will co-release Katie Graham’s and Andrew Matthews’s co-directorial debut, Zero Charisma. Inspired by the culture surrounding Dungeons & Dragons, this indie dramedy took home the Narrative Spotlight Audience Award at this year’s SXSW Film Festival.

Starring Sam Eidson of My Sucky Teen Romance, Zero Charisma follows Scott, a slightly off-putting but well-meaning self-professed “nerd” who leads his friends in a weekly quest through mysterious lands from the safety of his grandmother’s kitchen. When he invites the oh-so-cool Miles (Garrett Graham) to join the game, Scott suddenly finds his once-comfortable life slipping into disarray and his game master status challenged and usurped by the group’s newcomer. A victim of his own delusions of grandeur, Scott now must risk everything to expose Miles as the fraud he believes him to be.

Chris Hardwick, Nerdist founder and Chief Creative Officer explains: “My podcast mate Jonah Ray saw Zero Charisma at SXSW and immediately texted me to say it was one of the best movies of the year. When I saw it, I knew I had to tell as many people as I could about it.” He adds: “It's hilarious, touching, beautiful, authentic and an eerily accurate echo of my first D&D group in the 80’s. I think the character of Scott will become a cultural hero. He is the personification of the nerd rage that boils in all of us when PEOPLE. DON'T. FOLLOW. THE. RULES. OF. THE GAME.”

You can catch Zero Charisma this fall beginning October 8, 2013, through on-demand platforms as well as iTunes, Amazon Watch Instantly, VUDU, Playstation, and Google Play. This ode to nerdom will also enjoy a limited theatrical release on October 11. So don’t be afraid to let your game face show!
