WHAT TO WATCH: THE GIANT MECHANICAL MAN Friday at 10:00 p.m. on MSG Network
Just in time for the dog days of summer movie watching, MSG Network has partnered with Tribeca Film for Tribeca Film Presents, a special summer-long event telecasting Tribeca Film movies every Friday from June through September.
Writer-director Lee Kirk's 2012 dramedy The Giant Mechanical Man is essentially what you would get if the world's biggest Mindy Kaling fan were to write romantic fan fiction about The Office's Pam Beesly and The Mindy Project's Danny Castellano.
Meaning, this totally delightful modern-day fable follows Fischer's Janice, a thirtysomething fuck-up stuck working at a zoo, as she navigates couplehood with a new, sensitive co-worker (Messina), who also happens to be an unsuccessful silver-painted street performer, i.e. The Giant Mechanical Man of the title. In other words, a contemporary sitcom lover's dream. A terrific bunch of supporting actor mainstays, including Malin Åkerman, Topher Grace, Bob Odenkirk, Lucy Punch, and Rich Sommer, rounds out the rest of the cast.
Check out the trailer above and tune into MSG Network this Friday night at 10:00 p.m. for a sweetly noodly romance that premiered at the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival and stars two endlessly appealing actors who deserve a hell of a lot more chances at headlining more charming audience-pleasers like this.
