Parsons School of Design instructor, Nina Paley's short is part of an animated feature-in-progress called Sita Sings the Blues that resets an Indian epic to antique American jazz. In this episode, King Rama banishes his innocent wife Sita because he suspects that she has slept with a demon.

Nina Paley first encountered the Ramayana while living in Trivandrum, Kerala in 2002 and hasn't been the same since. In addition to making independent animated films, Paley teaches animation at Parsons School of Design.
