A Girl Like Me explores the standards of beauty imposed on today's black girls. Through a number of frank interviews with girls from the director's high school, the film delves beneath the surface in order to show how such standards affect self-esteem and self-image. After watching the film, viewers will come away with greater insight into where exactly these standards stem from.

High-schooler Kiri Davis knew early on in life that she wanted to work with film, and she made A Girl Like Me at the tender age of 16 under the auspices of the Reel Works teen filmmaking program. She hopes to continue her nascent filmmaking career by developing community- and issue-oriented film projects that will give more of a voice to people of color. Davis currently attends the Urban Academy high school and lives with her mother on Manhattan's Upper West Side.
