Despite growing up on the Lower East Side of Manhattan, the Angulo siblings knew little of New York City or the outside world. Their overprotective father kept them shut in their apartment, away from what he deemed the city's dangerous influences. To cope with their isolation the children turn to movies, diligently re-enacting their favorite films. Complete with scripts and elaborate sets, props and costumes, the kids use these stories to understand an outside world they can only glimpse from their windows. When one of the brothers escapes, the family is forced to enter society, and the fantasies begin to unravel.

First-time director Crystal Moselle, granted complete access to the family's apartment and trove of recordings of home performances, recreates a world that mimics the whimsy of their home movie studio, even using '80's pop hit ""Tarzan Boy"" to fantastic cinematic effect. The Wolfpack, 2015 Sundance Documentary Grand Jury Prize Winner, centers around a family who lives in make-believe but is ultimately a film for anyone who has ever used the movies to escape.
