Here's What You Missed at The 2024 Uninterrupted Film Festival
Star athletes like Paul George, Renee Montgomery, and Pete Rose came together to celebrate the best in sports stories.
That’s a wrap on the Uninterrupted Film Festival powered by Tribeca! Over two days, we spotlighted the best in sports stories at NeueHouse Hollywood. We commemorated anniversaries, celebrated athletic prowess, and corralled star athletes off the court and onto the Blue Carpet. From State of the Game chats to premiere screenings to the Athlete's Choice Awards, the second annual UNFF came out swinging.
Here are the highlights:
We got the ball rolling with A Radical Act: Renee Montgomery
A State of the Game: (S)heroes of Sport panel featured Coach Sydney Carter, Seniesa Estrada, Chiaka Ogbogu, and Toni Breidinger, discussing the future of women's sports and the power of storytelling.
All eyes were on Renee Montgomery, the first former WNBA player to become a co-owner and executive of a WNBA franchise, after the world premiere of Emmy Award winner Sandrine Orabona's documentary, A Radical Act: Renee Montgomery. Montgomery and Orabona took the stage, alongside Malika Andrews and MJ Acosta-Ruiz, to discuss the trailblazer and her sports story.
Paul George and Lil Dicky light up a live taping of Podcast P
NBA superstar Paul George, along with co-hosts Jackie Long and Dallas Rutherford, teamed up with comedian and musician Dave Burd, aka Lil Dicky, for a special live taping of the hit series Podcast P presented by Wave Sports + Entertainment to talk all things life, basketball, and Philly culture.
Fifteen years of 30 for 30 and a conversation with Matt Barnes
We celebrated fifteen years of ESPN’s 30 for 30 with panelists Monica McNutt, Johnathan Hock, Felipe Lopez and Marsha Cooke discussing its impact and legacy throughout the years.
This was followed by a conversation on the athlete podcast landscape, where NBA veteran and co-host of the All The Smoke podcast, Matt Barnes, discussed his time with Kobe and what brought him to LA in a conversation with Trae Young and Omari Hardwick.
Honoring Filmmaking Excellence with Athlete’s Choice Awards
We marked the festival's first-ever celebration of excellence in filmmaking with an awards ceremony. The selection committee, which included LeBron James, Naomi Osaka, and Joel Embiid, reviewed over 190 submissions. Maverick Carter gave Awards in person with the Athlete’s Choice Award going to Moving Mountains, directed by Jessa Williams, and the Audience Award to Equal Play, directed by Lily Ahree Siegel.
Pete Rose reveals his bid for MLB reinstatement
Attendees caught the world premiere of Charlie Hustle & The Matter of Pete Rose, a documentary showing the former player as he embarks on a new bid for reinstatement in the MLB and a place in the National Baseball Hall of Fame. After the screening, Al Michaels, Director Mark Monroe, and Pete Rose himself joined a dynamic Q&A session that offered further insights into the documentary and the controversial figure at its center.
