Watch the Trailer for ‘Maladies’ Starring James Franco
Set in the 1960s, this drama features James Franco as a former soap opera star trying to reinvent his career.
James Franco is one of the most extraordinary artists in Hollywood, let alone the indie film world. Naturally, his remarkable skills drew the attention of acclaimed mulitmedia artist Carter. After making Erased James Franco together in 2008, the duo reteamed for the idiosyncratic drama, Maladies. Written and directed by Carter, their unconventional and daring second feature screened at both the Berlin International Film Festival and SXSW in 2013. Also starring Catherine Keener, Fallon Goodson, David Strathairn, and Alan Cumming, Maladies follows James (played by Franco), an unhinged ex-soap star desperate to get back to his creative roots. Inspired to start a new career as a writer, he moves in with his bizarre sister (played by Goodson) and their best friend, a painter named Catherine (played by Keener). Soon, the lines between reality and fiction begin to blur as James tries desperately to discover a creative process that will allow him to finish his novel.
Maladies hits select theaters on March 21 and will be followed by a VOD and digital platforms release on March 25 from Tribeca Film.
