TFF & TFI Alumni Collect IDA 2014 Nominations
The International Documentary Association’s IDA Awards just announced their 2014 nominations…and we’re happy to see some familiar titles among them!
If you attended this year’s Tribeca Film Festival, you know it was a great year for documentary filmmaking. One of the most prestigious honors a documentary can receive is a nomination from the International Documentary Association’s IDA Awards. The IDA Awards jury narrowed down 250 qualifying films to just a few dozen finalists, a difficult task for sure. We’re pleased to see some TFF and TFI-supported films on the list.
Marshall Curry’s Point and Shoot continues to rack up accolades (it won the TFF 2014 Best Documentary Feature prize and was recently nominated by the Gotham Awards for Best Documentary) with its nomination for Best Feature Award. Even more impressive when you consider that the competition for this honor includes Laura Poitras’ Citizenfour and John Maloof’s and Charlie Siskel’s Finding Vivian Maier. TFF 2014 Audience Award Winner Keep On Keepin’ On, which chronicled the relationship between piano prodigy Justin Kauflin and Jazz legend Clarky Terry, also received a nomination for the Humanitas Award.
In addition to Point and Shoot, TFI also supported Evolution of a Criminal filmmaker Darius Clark Monroe, who will receive the Emerging Documentary Award at the IDA Awards ceremony on December 5 in Los Angeles. While we’re pleased for our talented alumni, we congratulate all the nominees.
