Mala Mala, Antonio Santini and Dan Sickles's vivid, unforgettable documentary about nine distinctive members of Puerto Rico's ever-growing trans community, made its world premiere at the 2014 Tribeca Film Festival to great reviews and a runner-up prize in the Audience Award's Documentary division. It also recently featured on our list of some of the best trans-focused entertainment worth seeking out.

For whatever cryptic, ridiculous reason, Mala Mala has yet to receive stateside distribution, which is unfortunate because it fully deserves to be seen and celebrated by a larger audience outside of the festival sphere. (You can read a great review of the film from Remezcla, here.)

Luckily for New Yorkers, the Brooklyn Museum is hosting a free screening of the film this Saturday, June 6th, at 8 PM, as part of caribBEING's Heritage Film Series! Paxx and Joyce Puty of the Butterflies Trans Foundation, Inc. will be in attendance, as will various members of the film's production crew!

So, please go see this terrific, timely doc if you're in town and tell all your friends about it and then make them tell all their friends about it. Raising our voices and spreading the word are the surest ways to secure this film the wider audience it so richly warrants.
