When weekender Paul Mullin (David Strathairn) discovers his neighbor digging a hole in the middle of the night, he simply writes it off as a bizarre encounter...until the neighbor and his cheating wife disappear. Worried that he's stumbled upon more than he bargained for, Paul calls on the local sheriff (Tim Guinee) to help unearth the truth, and finds out that, in a small town, some secrets are better left buried.

Director and producer of corporate films for Pfizer, American Express, WPP, and Deloitte, Nick Childs has also worked on documentary, television, and feature productions for HBO, ABC, Sony Television, and the Brady Campaign Against Gun Violence. He holds a B.A. in English from Colby College and a M.F.A. in Fiction Writing from NYU. The Shovel is his first dramatic short. Currently developing feature projects, Childs lives with his wife and children in New York.
