Tribeca Talks Script & Screen Hosted by Barnes & Noble: This is the Real Life
Tribeca Talks
| 60 MINUTES
Real life offers enough drama for the big screen, and writers and directors forever have been drawn to it. Through documentary and narrative form there are constant choices to be made in deciding which version of events to explore, and how to recreate moments from the immediate or far past for a present audience. Panelists include The Adderall Diaries director Pamela Romanowsky, As I Am: The Life and Times of DJ AM director Kevin Kerslake, Men Go to Battle director Zachary Treitz and The Wannabe director Nick Sandow. Moderated by The Verge’s Ross Miller.
Pamela Romanosky
Pamela is very curious about how things work, especially people – to her, directing films is a great excuse to watch people. She studied behavioral psychology at Macalester College, verité documentary filmmaking with Barbara Kopple, and narrative filmmaking at New York University’s MFA program. In 2013, Pamela was selected by the Sundance Institute to participate in four fellowships: the Screenwriter’s Lab, Director’s Lab, Producer’s Summit, and the Film Music and Sound Design Lab at Skywalker Sound. She was also selected as a Film Society of Lincoln Center Artist’s Academy participant, and the recipient of the Indian Paintbrush Feature Film Grant.
Kevin Kerslake
One of a handful of directors responsible for forging the visual identity of the MTV generation, Kevin Kerslake has directed award-winning music videos for Nirvana, Green Day, R.E.M., the Rolling Stones, and the Red Hot Chili Peppers, along with scores of live concerts and music docs, notably Nirvana: Live! Tonight! Sold Out!, The Electric Daisy Carnival Experience, and The Ramones: We’re Outta Here! Kerslake has directed commercials for Nike, Puma, Kohler, Compaq, AT&T, Sprite, Coca-Cola and Sony Playstation. Kerslake’s forays into narrative work include one hour dramas and network miniseries.
Nick Sandow
Nick Sandow has an extensive resume that spans film, television and theater. Sandow currently plays Joe Caputo in the Emmy nominated series “Orange Is the New Black” which is shooting its 3rd season. Additionally, he is playing the role of Garza in Meadowland, a film directed by Reed Morano, starring Olivia Wilde, Juno Temple and Luke Wilson, in production now. Nick also directed the plays, Henry Flamethrowa, Dark Yellow, Chicken and From Riverdale to Riverhead. His feature film directorialdebut, Ponies, premiered in the summer of 2012, with the New York Times calling it “...a riveting piece of work”.
Zachary Treitz
Zachary Treitz was born in Louisville, Kentucky (3/10/85). He produced The Pleasure of Being Robbed (feature, 2008), co-produced Daddy Longlegs (feature, 2009), and wrote and directed We're Leaving (short, 2011).
Ross Miller
Ross Miller is a founding editor of The Verge, a digital publication that obsesses over the future of art, culture, science, and technology. Since launching in 2011 in partnership with Vox Media, The Verge has been recognized with countless awards and accolades, from five Webbys to acceptance into the prestigious AFI DOCS Film Festival.
