At the balmy inaugural night of the first-ever Tribeca Cinema Series Movies on the Beach at the Caesars Atlantic City Hotel & Casino, the day’s heat cooled down, the breeze was delightful, and the popcorn hit the spot.

Caesars set up 200 beach chairs for visitors, but many guests brought their own, and some of the large crowd—made up of families and movie fans of all ages—even made themselves comfortable right on the sand. After some brief introductions from Caesars and Tribeca staff members, the movie began on the state-of-the-art giant LCD screen, which sat in the shadow of the Pier Shops on the Boardwalk in Atlantic City.

Crowds started gathering at dusk for the indie comedy The Trotsky, starring up-and-comer Jay Baruchel (The Sorcerer’s Apprentice, Tropic Thunder, She’s Out of My League) as a high-schooler who believes he’s the reincarnation of Soviet thinker Leon Trotsky. After a failed attempt at unionizing his father’s factory workers, Leon takes his revolution to the local public school, where he enlists the help of a ragtag team of instigators to fight for students’ rights.
