“Side By Side” Now Playing
“Side By Side,” Keanu Reeves and Chris Kenneally’s hit documentary exploring the film vs. digital debate, is now playing in New York, LA, and elsewhere. Many more cities to follow in the coming weeks!

The buzz surrounding Side By Side grew deafening after its nationwide release on VOD and digital platforms on August 22. Increasing numbers of movie lovers across the country are taking advantage of the opportunity to watch this fascinating documentary that chronicles “the science, art and impact of digital cinema.” What’s more, Side by Side reached the coveted iTunes top 10 documentaries list over the weekend, landing in the number 2 position.
And the critics agree! David Poland of Movie City News describes Side By Side as “an absolute MUST-SEE for anyone who loves movies.” The Hollywood Reporter adds that the film is “an engrossing and detailed crash course on the digital revolution.”
Directed by Chris Kenneally and produced by Keanu Reeves, Side By Side explores the complicated and often divisive dialogue arising from the inevitable transition from traditional filmmaking methods to the use of the cutting-edge techniques available in the digital age. The engrossing documentary presents in-depth interviews with famous directors and cinematographers caught up in this technical revolution, including Martin Scorsese, George Lucas, Steven Soderbergh, and David Fincher.
It seems only right that Side By Side will enjoy screenings at two prestigious theaters in NYC—a city defined by the cinema in so many ways—starting this Friday, August 31. The film will open downtown at the Quad Cinema, a New York independent film staple for almost 40 years, and will play uptown at the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center at the Film Society of Lincoln Center. Director Chris Kenneally will be on hand for a Q&A at the Quad after the 7:00PM screenings on Friday (8/31) and Saturday (9/1) night. At the Elinor Bunin Munroe Film Center, Kenneally will be appear for Q&As after the 8:00PM show on Friday and after the 8:45PM show on Saturday.
If you are on the left coast this weekend, you can catch 11:00AM matinees Saturday through Monday at both the Laemmle Playhouse 7 in Pasadena and the Laemmle Monica 4-Plex in Santa Monica. Side By Side also opens Friday in Seattle at the Grand Illusion Cinema.
