Kick It at the 2012 Tribeca/NYFEST Soccer Day

Tribeca today announced the slate of free community events taking place during the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival, including the Tribeca Drive-In, the Family Festival Street Fair, and the Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day. We are also pleased to welcome back the Tribeca/NYFEST Soccer Tournament for its second year. TFF 2012, presented by Founding Sponsor American Express, will take place in lower Manhattan from April 18-29.

"Since its inception, the Tribeca Film Festival has strived to give back to the neighborhood and the city with free community events for New Yorkers and visitors of all ages," said Nancy Schafer, Tribeca Film Festival Executive Director. "We are thrilled to continue the tradition with Festival favorites like the Drive-In, Family Festival Street Fair and Tribeca/ESPN Sports Day, and to challenge our industry colleagues, young athletes and soccer fans with the Tribeca/NYFEST Soccer Day tournament."

On Saturday, April 21, all ages and skill levels are welcome to "kick it" downtown for a day of athleticism, fresh air, soccer, and fun! Festival-goers, athletes and the general public are invited to participate in a number of events:

♦ a five-a-side industry soccer tournament, where professionals from film, television, music, sports will compete
♦ a celebrity match
♦ a youth soccer showcase with professional coaches and soccer legends for kids of all skill levels
♦ a freestyle juggling clinic with World Juggling Freestyle champion Eli Freeze
♦ other entertainment and activities throughout the day

Do you work in film, television, music, sports, or another aspect of the entertainment industry? If you’re feeling competitive, round up your friends and register your team here. Teams representing Sony Pictures Classics, Focus Features, Oscilloscope, The Daily Show, The Colbert Report, Tribeca Enterprises, and more have already signed up. Once you’ve registered, check out the #kickit hashtag on Twitter. And if you’re feeling confident, use #talksmack on Twitter to let the other teams know you’re on board and ready to compete.

Proceeds from team registration fees for the event will benefit the Claudio Reyna Foundation and City Soccer in the Community, non-profit organizations focused on the betterment of youth in the inner city.

If you’re not ready to field a team, come on down anyway—we’ll have activities for all ages throughout the day, and Soccer Day is open to the public. And if you’re in more of a spectator mood, food and drinks will be available for purchase onsite. For more information on match schedules and participants, visit www.tribecafilm.com/soccerday.

Kick it with Tribeca on April 21!
