George Lucas Donates $10 Million to Support USC Film School's African American & Hispanic Students

Let's see what the #BoycottStarWarsVII people think about this.

In the wake of the vile Twitter hashtag launched to protest black actor John Boyega's starring role in Star Wars: The Force Awakens, franchise creator George Lucas is killing that noise by putting his money where the diversity needs to be. As reported by Indiewire's Shadow and Act blog, the George Lucas Family Foundation, headed by Lucas and his wife, Mellody Hobson, will donate $10 million to Lucas' alma mater, the USC School of Cinematic Arts, in an effort to award scholarships to more African American and Hispanic students. It's the largest single donation of its kind in USC's history, and it’ll be split up fairly between young men and women. The guys will be known as the "George Lucas Scholars"; the ladies, the "Mellody Hobson Scholars."

"Hispanic and African-American storytellers are underrepresented in the entertainment industry," says Lucas. "It is Mellody's and my privilege to provide this assistance to qualified students who want to contribute their unique experience and talent to telling their stories."

USC president C.L. Max Nikias adds, "George Lucas and Mellody Hobson are inspiring leaders in their fields, and tremendous friends to the USC community. This gift will nurture the next generation of artists, supporting scholarships that enhance access in the cinematic arts, while bringing new and diverse voices and stories into our lives."

Here's something new for The Force Awakens and John Boyega's haters: #GeorgeHasNoTimeForYourBoycott.

And just because now is as good of a time as any to watch it for the 100th time, here's the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer that's already been viewed over 50 million times. Which is madness:
