Igor Martinovic: 'You're Trying to Influence the Viewer by Capturing Energy'

"Cinema is a great art because of that collective experience where people sit in the dark and you try to basically manipulate people to feel a certain way about the story you're presenting."

Cinematographer Igor Martinovic, DP of the TFF 2013 film Sunlight Jr. talks about how he got started with visual storytelling ("The more you do something the more you become obsessed with it"), and taking risks to capture the style of a film ("Sometimes you miss it but at least you try").

"Right now we live in an age where there's an abundance of beautiful imagery around us so the point is not any longer to produce beautiful images, but necessary ones."

The Cinematographers in Focus program celebrates the work of Directors of Photography. This episode of Cinematographers in Focus is sponsored by Sony, and was shot on the Sony F55 CineAlta 4K Digital Motion Picture Camera.
