Kara Walker Is Coming to the Domino Sugar Factory in NYC
And it's going to be awesome...
Creative Time, the organization that commissions public art projects, has just announced that world-renowned artist Kara Walker will exhibit her work at the Domino Sugar Factory in Brooklyn in May in what promises to be one of the biggest art events of 2014.
The exhibit has been titled "A Subtlety, Or the Marvelous Sugar Baby" and will be "An homage to the unpaid and overworked artisans who have refined our sweet tastes from the cane fields to the kitchens of the New World." Walker's iconic work, which plays with the convention of the 18th century upper class silhouette portrait to convey African-American histories, will take over the now abandoned warehouse.
Kara Walker donated her work "An Unpeopled Land in Uncharted Waters" for the TFF 2012 Art Awards. Her exhibition at the Domino Sugar Factory, which opens on May 10th, will be free and open to the public. Now is your chance to experience one of the most prolific artists of the 21st century!
