The 2021 Tribeca Festival Announces Award Winners
The winning filmmakers and storytellers celebrated at Spring Studios for the 20th-anniversary festival.
The 2021 Tribeca Festival, presented by AT&T, announced the winners of its competition categories. The juried awards, honors storytelling across mediums, including features, shorts, documentaries, immersive, and for the first time ever, podcasts and games. For the first time ever, Persol, presented the award to the 2021 Best Actor, U.S. Narrative recipient.
Top honors at this year’s festival went to The Novice, Brighton 4th, and Ascension. Chanel James and Taylor Garron won the coveted Nora Ephron Award and a $25,000 prize for As of Yet.
Celebrating innovative storytelling and design in games, the festival honored Geography of Robots’ Norco with the first-ever Games Award. Transformative immersive experience Kusunda received AT&T’s Storyscapes Award. And in the Podcast category, sponsored by Audible, the Non-Fiction Narrative Award went to Guardians of the River, with the Fiction Narrative Award going to Vermont Ave.
“It’s been a challenging time for filmmakers, storytellers, and actors, and we’re so proud to honor the perseverance and dedication many of them displayed while working through the many obstacles that arose as a result of COVID-19,” said Cara Cusumano, Festival Director and Vice President of Programming. “Each of these recipients truly embody the spirit of our creative community.”
