Coca-Cola
The Last Coke in the Desert
2026 marks 100 years of Coca-Cola in Mexico. A century of presence so deep it has woven itself into the fabric of daily life—into celebrations, into road trips, into the quiet ritual of sharing something cold on a hot day. But for a milestone this meaningful, the brand didn't want fanfare. It wanted honesty. It wanted to celebrate not itself, but the people who made those 100 years possible.
That search led to a phrase. La última Coca-Cola del desierto, the last Coke in the desert. For generations, it has been used to describe someone who thinks they're a little too rare and special. While the people who are truly special, like a last Coke in the desert would be, went quietly unrecognized.
The shopkeepers of Mexico's most remote deserts. The Pedros and Josefas, the Noemís, the Agustíns and Marías—running small tiendas in relentless heat, on roads few people travel, for customers who rarely come. And yet, they always have a cold Coca-Cola waiting.
For years, Coca-Cola has been quietly by their side—providing cooling systems, logistics support and training programs to help these stores survive in the harshest conditions. The infrastructure was there. What was missing was the recognition.
So the 100-year anniversary became a reclamation. A decision to find these people, tell their stories, and return an expression to those who had quietly, faithfully, earned it every single day.
