Budding Cinephiles Can Blossom at Film Forum
Want to help your child develop a love of cinema? Take him or her to Film Forum Jr., the inaugural series of classics selected by the famous art house with younger audiences in mind. The series starts this Sunday, January 6.
For those of you who have dreamed of watching your favorite classics on the big screen with your family, the new Film Forum series, Film Forum Jr. is just the ticket. Starting this Sunday, January 6, and running through March 31, families and early rising film fans of every ilk will have the opportunity to view silent films, foreign classics, and many gems from the golden age of Hollywood, thanks to the generosity of The Cordelia Corporation.
Programmed by Bruce Goldstein, the series runs a total of thirteen Sundays and starts promptly at 11:00AM. Best of all? All tickets cost only $7 dollars, a great incentive to ready your brood for a morning matinee at the movies. The series kicks off with Albert Lamorisse's classic, The Red Balloon.
Film Forum Jr. allows audiences to experience these film classics the way they were meant to be seen (even with a live piano accompaniment by Steve Sterner at select screenings). All movies will be shown in glorious 35mm or crystal clear DCP. From Buster Keaton to Ozu to Dr. Seuss to Mel Brooks, Film Forum guarantees that most programs are appropriate for audience members ages 5 and up. At almost every showing, moviegoers will be treated to special shorts, surprises, and even a contest or two.
What child 12 & under wouldn’t jump at the chance to participate in a Fay Wray Scream-alike contest at the March 3 screening of King Kong or to enter the Crazy Hat Contest at the March 31 viewing of Easter Parade? Don't fret, parents and older filmgoers. You too can join in the fun, perhaps by performing a quiet little soft shoe along with Debbie Reynolds and Gene Kelly during the February 10 screening of Singin’ in the Rain.
Movies in the Film Forum Jr. Series are open to all movie lovers, young, old, and in between. Introduce these classic films to your kids or experience them for the first time yourself by spending your Sunday mornings at the movies.
