Mexican Director Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu Wins Directors Guild of America Award

This marks the second year in a row that a Mexican director wins the DGA in the feature film category.

Mexican director Alejandro González Inárritu won the Directors Guild Award for Best Feature Film Director for Birdman. This was Inárritu’s second win since 2012 when he took home the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials.

This marks the second year in a row that a Mexican director wins the DGA in the feature film category. Alfonso Cuarón received the award last year for Gravity and went on to take home the Oscar for Best Director.

If history is any indicator Inárritu should now be prepping his Academy Award Speech. All but seven winners of the DGA have gone on to win the Oscar for Best Director.
